“Hi! My name is Kortney and I was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina.

I studied Japanese for a year at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and had the opportunity to do a homestay in Chiba, Japan in the summer of 2007 where I fell in love with the country and its people. After I graduated, I moved to Japan in January 2008 and I’ve been here ever since!

Last year, in June 2020, I bought an order house and moved into my dream home! So I’m a bit house proud. I enjoy gardening, doing yoga and baking in my new home, which is fortunate since traveling hasn’t been possible since the pandemic started.

As a Japanese learner and a teacher of English I know what it’s like to learn a new language and the difficulties Japanese learners have when trying to study English. I’ve also been told that I’m a good listener, so please tell me about whatever interests you! I’m eager to help you improve your English, but mostly I’m looking forward to getting to know you through your diaries! I hope you enjoy the diary exchange program!”
