Justin Moriarty

“Hello, everyone! My name is Justin, and I’m originally from California and Arizona in the States. I have been living in Japan since 2009. I first started studying Japanese in high school where it was offered. I was into Japanese anime, manga, and video games, so I thought studying Japanese would be fun. Thanks to my hard work, I was the top student in my class for three years! After high school, I majored in Japanese at Arizona State University.

Throughout my time in Japan, I have mostly worked as an English teacher from kindergarten to high school. For the past five years, I have been working as an Eikaiwa teacher for senior citizens in Tokyo and Kanagawa, and I teach Saturday classes at a private high school in Sagamihara. For a little while now, I have also been working as a freelance translator. Presently, I live in Yokohama with my wife and our daughter but before that, I also lived in Kagawa, Ehime, Hiroshima, Niigata, Saitama, and Tochigi Prefectures.

In my free time, I enjoy practicing martial arts. I love Karate and MMA. When I was a child, I did Taekwondo. In addition, I practiced wrestling when I was in junior high, and I started kickboxing in high school. I have met many famous champions. When I relax, I enjoy watching movies, listening to music, and watching anime.”
